Both are personality typing systems, but they work on different principles.
Similarities:
- Both describe innate preferences and tendencies
- Both avoid "good/bad" labeling of types
- Both are used for career guidance and relationship understanding
- Both recognize that types are starting points, not prisons
Differences:
- MBTI is self-reported (questionnaire); BaZi is calculated from birth time (objective)
- MBTI has 16 types; BaZi has 10 Day Masters with near-infinite variation from other chart elements
- MBTI is static; BaZi adds a timing dimension with Luck Cycles
- MBTI focuses on cognition; BaZi addresses the whole person — personality, health, wealth, relationships, timing
Some practitioners map correlations: Jia Wood often resembles ENTJ, Ding Fire resembles INFP. But these are loose parallels. BaZi's depth comes from its elemental dynamics, not just its type categories.
