🔟 The 10-Year Luck Cycles
Every BaZi chart is divided into decades. Each decade is ruled by a specific Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch — a new elemental weather system that interacts with your fixed chart.
- If your chart is cold and you enter a Fire cycle, life warms up. Energy, visibility, opportunities.
- If your chart is dry and you enter a Water cycle, emotions deepen, intuition sharpens.
- A supportive cycle makes everything feel like it’s flowing. A clashing cycle teaches resilience.
These cycles begin at different ages depending on your chart. Some start at age 3; others at age 9. You cannot change your cycles — but you can surf them rather than drown.
📅 The Annual Star (The Current Weather)
Each year also brings its own Stem and Branch energy. This interacts with your Day Master and your current Luck Cycle. Think of it as this month’s weather inside this decade’s climate.
A challenging annual star in a supportive Luck Cycle is a small storm. A challenging annual star in an already difficult Luck Cycle is a big winter. The wise farmer does not plant in snow.

BaZi doesn’t trap you in fate. It shows you the seasons of your life. When your chart is flowering, go all in. When it’s winter, rest, learn, and prepare. This is the most practical gift of the Four Pillars: knowing when to act and when to wait.
