A Four Pillars chart is built from four pairs of calendar symbols associated with the year, month, day, and hour of birth. A date alone does not supply the hour pillar. If you enter a convenient time simply to complete a form, the result describes that assumed input, not a verified chart for you.
What can the time change?
The hour pillar is the most obvious difference. It can also affect how the pillars are read together. Traditional hours cover roughly two hours each, but a modern clock reading is not always the final calculation boundary. The birthplace, its historical time zone, any daylight-saving rule in effect, and local solar-time adjustments all matter to how a recorded time is interpreted. A birth close to a boundary deserves particular care.
This does not mean every five-minute uncertainty will change a chart. It means that the effect cannot be known merely by looking at the number of minutes. One person may be safely within a time interval; another may be close to its edge.
How to check your birth time
Start with a birth certificate, hospital record, or another contemporary record. Note the date, clock time, and city of birth together. If a relative remembers only “early morning,” keep that as a clue rather than silently converting it into an exact hour. For births abroad, do not replace the recorded local time with the time shown in a different country.
FateLumen uses the supplied birthplace and time to resolve the calendar input before calculating the chart. The four pillars are calculated from rules and calendar data; the missing hour is not guessed from a personality description.
What if the hour is unknown?
At present, FateLumen's free chart requires you to supply a specific birth time. It will not substitute noon, midnight, or a random hour to produce a complete chart or report. If your records are incomplete, verifying them first is more useful than receiving a polished interpretation of an unverified chart.
Four Pillars is a traditional interpretive framework, not a guaranteed forecast of health, relationships, or life events. For another careful introduction to its symbols, read How Yin and Yang Work in a Four Pillars Chart.
